Mobile workforce management
Mobile workforce management is running a team that works away from your premises: knowing where people are, what they are working on, how long it took, and whether they have the information and stock to finish. It combines scheduling, a field app, time capture and location data into one view.
What the discipline covers
It covers four questions a manager cannot answer by walking around: who is where, what state each job is in, how long work is actually taking, and whether the people on site are qualified and equipped for it.
In an office those answers are visible. In a mobile team they have to be instrumented, which is what the tooling is for.
The field app is the whole system
The field app decides whether the rest works, because it is where the data is created. An app technicians avoid produces a system with no inputs, and a manager looking at a dashboard of stale information.
That means it has to work in the conditions technicians actually face: a weak signal, a phone held in one hand, gloves, and no appetite for a fifteen field form. Omni Field's technician app is an installable PWA that tolerates a dropped connection, holding entries in a sync queue and uploading them when signal returns. It is offline tolerant rather than fully offline.
Measuring without micromanaging
Measure at the level of the job, not the minute. Time on site, travel between jobs, and completion rates tell you what you need for planning. Tracking individuals continuously produces resentment and rarely produces a decision.
Omni Field provides attendance and clock-in with GPS-linked timesheets, geofence verification of clock-in against approved sites, live technician positions, and workforce reporting. Where location is recorded, POPIA obligations apply: tell your team what is collected, why, and for how long.
