Does the mobile app work without a signal?

It keeps working, with one honest qualification. The app is offline tolerant: when the signal drops on a farm, in a basement or during load shedding, the technician can keep opening the jobs already on the phone, tick tasks, add photographs and notes, record parts and capture a signature, and everything is held in a sync queue. When coverage returns the queue sends in order and the office sees it. What it does not do is fetch new jobs or download a customer history it has never seen while offline, so it is not a fully offline application, and a technician who starts the day with the app open has a better day than one who opens it for the first time in a dead zone. Nothing recorded on site is lost because the network was not there.

Do technicians install it from an app store?

Accepted Answer

No. The app is an installable web app, which means a technician opens a link on Android or iPhone, taps Add to Home Screen, and it sits on the phone like any other app with its own icon and full-screen view. There is no app store account, no update to approve and nothing for the office to license per device; a new version is there the next time the app opens. It runs on the phones the team already has, and because it is the same app on both platforms a mixed Android and iPhone team sees exactly the same screens. A technician who leaves is removed in the team settings and the app on their phone stops working, without anybody needing the device back. If a phone is lost, the same link installs it on the replacement in a minute and the jobs are there when it opens.

What can a technician do from their phone?

Everything the job needs between arriving and leaving. See the day's jobs in route order with navigation to each site, clock in against the site's geofence, read the job notes and the customer's history, tick off the task list, photograph the work before and after, record the parts used from the van stock, log time on site, capture the client's signature on the screen, and send the completed job card or the invoice to the customer by WhatsApp or email. A technician with the right permission can also build a quote on site and convert it to a job, take a card payment through the invoice link, and see the next job before this one closes. The office sees each of those steps as they happen. Permissions decide which of these each role can do, so a new technician sees the job and the tasks and nothing about pricing until you say so.

Is there an extra charge for the mobile app?

Accepted Answer

No. The app is part of every plan, including the Free plan, and there is no per-device or per-download charge. What a business pays for is seats: on PaYu each technician or manager who uses the app takes a technician seat at R149 a month, on Growth one seat is included and each extra one is R349, and the owner is always included without a seat. Viewer users are free on every plan, and admin seats are priced separately for people who work in the dashboard rather than the field. All prices include 15% VAT and are published on the pricing page. So the app itself costs nothing; the person using it is the seat, and a seat moves to the next technician when someone leaves. There is no charge for storage of photographs either; they sit on the job for as long as the account exists.

Can technicians navigate to the next job?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each job carries the customer's address, and one tap opens it in the maps app the technician already uses for turn-by-turn directions. The day's jobs are ordered by route so the technician sees where to go next without phoning the office, and route optimisation can order up to 60 stops for a technician by shortest path, with traffic-aware arrival times shown for the final route. The customer receives an on-my-way message with the expected arrival time by WhatsApp or email when the technician starts travelling. Because positions are tracked with the technician's consent during working hours, the office can also see who is closest when an urgent callout comes in and send the nearest person rather than the next name on the list. A technician who finishes early sees the office's reordered day on the phone without a phone call, and the customer's message updates with the new time.
